How To Get One

When you have decided that this is ther type of scheme you wish to take part in, to start the process you will need to undertake the following:

Register your interest either through this website or by filling in one of the registration forms. We will then advise you on how to run your local project.

Please note that you will have to have a co-ordinating committee or organisation to take charge of the cPAD in place, possibly a Parish Council sub-committee, church or local interested group. This group will need to be in charge of the fundraising for the project, and liaise with ourselves regarding purchase, installation and the ambulance service for training. Do not send any monies to us to keep yet. Remember CHT is there ito support your process. You are responsible for your cPAD scheme.

Raise the funds. Conduct a local fund raising initiative. The cost of the project is about £1600-£1900, which will supply the AED defibrillator, the vandal proof box, and training resource for the village. The higher price includes service and support for maintenance of the defibrillator and box for seven (7) years! This equates to £1 per day per village per PAD.

Once the funds are raised, contact us and we will inform you of the process to get the PAD installed and trained. Installation will require an electrical connection and thus the location must be central and easily accessible, yet also have access to electricity.

You can in reality use any AED equipment so long as it is suitable and is approved by the local ambulance trust. The equipment we recomend comes from Cardiac Science, one of the world's best manufacturers, and the one also chosen for a similar project carried out several years ago for the British Heart Foundation. In reality any AED equipment could be used but there are reasons why we recomend this specific equipment.

Initial training will be undertaken by a local training company, or the local ambulance service. Ideally it will comprise of a full Emergency First Aid course (1 day) to include the additional elements for using the AED/PAD. A shorter course of just AED training is the minimum required. Training will be undertakein by HSE certified instructors.

We get great support for CHT from many organisations around the country. Specifically we would like to thank the support for the HeartBeat Belvoir project and the publicity which is co-ordinated by the Village Link magazine, who are one of the founders of this project.
